Amalia Abad Casasempere
Amalia Abad Casasempere (Alcoy, 11 December 1897 - ibíd. 21 September 1936) was a Catholic woman killed during the Spanish Civil War. She was a widow and mother of two daughters, very active in church service, who hid two nuns in her house during the civil war.〔RABENSTEIN, K. I. ''"ABAD CASASEMPERE, AMALIA, AND COMPANIONS, BB."''〕〔PRELATURA de Ayaviri. ''"(28 de septiembre: Beata Amalia Abad Casasempere, Madre de familia y mártir )"''.〕 She was imprisoned and executed by the militia. For her actions she was one of 233 people beatified by Pope John Paul II on 11 March 2001,〔OFICINA de las Celebraciones Litúrgicas del Sumo Pontífice.〕 as martyrs of the Spanish Civil War (the name given by the Catholic Church to those killed by Republicans because of their faith).〔
